After leading the King of the Mountains classification in stage 1 of the Sun tour, Teddy King took a nasty crash that brought an early end to his tour. King started the stage just as planned with the lead over the first two climbs. He was feeling strong and liked his chances of doing well over the course of the entire race. “I felt great going over both climbs to take the KOMs”, said King. Then a simple touch of wheels sent him 100 ft. over an embankment into the woods. King laid there for five minutes before being noticed by team mechanic, Ben Oliver. Teddy was placed on a backboard, rushed to the hospital where he spent the night. King suffered bad bumps and bruises, but Doctors say that he was very lucky not to have suffered more serious injury. Teddy is now on his way back to the United States where he will undergo MRI to explore any possible damage to his knee.
