For the first time, stage 4 will be a team time trial racing on the hilly, 2.5 mile, 12-turn race track which is used for motorsports events. Stage 5 is the longest stage of the tour at 133.4 miles and has 3 KOMs. This is also a new route from Suwanee to Dahlonega. Stage 6 is the epic day of climbing up Brasstown Bald with 88.4 miles of racing in the Appalachian Mountains. The 2008 tour concludes with a circuit race consisting of 10, 6.3 mile laps which start and finish at Centennial Park in Atlanta.
The BISSELL Pro Cycling Team is coming from a strong start to their 2008 race season with a solid showing at the 2008 Amgen Tour of California and good spring results in the 99 Series and the Greenville Spring Series. Ben Jacques-Maynes finished 16th overall at the Amgen Tour of California and won the new spring points series, 99 Series. The team is showing exceptional strength in the time trial with Tom Zirbel finishing 8th, Ben Jacques-Maynes finishing 9th, and the team securing 4th place in the team competition at the Amgen Tour of California Time Trial. With time trialing being a strong suit for the team, the Tour de Georgia team time trial will be an exciting race. Team Director, Glen Mitchell, says, “The team is excited about the TTT. After a good showing in the individual TT in the Tour of California, we are eager to see what we can do as a whole team. I believe we have a balanced team for this kind of event and I know the guys are prepared to give it their all.” In addition to Tom and Ben, Jeremy Vennell and Scott Zwizanski have had some good recent TT results.
