North Carolina Race Recap
The BISSELL Pro Cycling Team hit the roads of North Carolina hard last week. The first race on the schedule was the Giordana Crossroads Classic. The five day omnium was held in five different NC downtown venues and BISSELL rode hard for their sponsor, Giordana. Cody O’Reilly and Frank Pipp set off on the streets of Concord and placed 4th and 5th, respectively, in the Cabarrus Creamery Criterium. They continued their strong efforts the next day at the FUZE Criterium with Frank Pipp finishing 3rd.
Next the squad took on the two NRC crits of the weekend, the Presbyterian Classic and the Hanes Park Criterium. The goal for these races was to protect Tom Zirbel’s position at the top of the NRC and BISSELL’s lead in the team classification. At Saturday’s Presbyterian Classic, Andy Jacques-Maynes was in the day’s 11 man breakaway and came across the line in 5th. Sunday’s Hanes Park saw early breakaway action from Frank Pipp, Morgan Schmitt, and Andy Jacques-Maynes. Cody O’Reilly sat on the sprinter’s train coming into the final lap but, unfortunately, was taken out in a final lap pile-up. Peter Latham was BISSELL’s top finisher for the day.
The team had some great racing in the southeast and look forward to venturing north for this weekend’s USPRO Criterium Championship in Downers Grove, IL.
