Zirbel Does It Again in Elk Grove
The Tour of Elk Grove kicked off on Friday night with a 7k time trial and BISSELL’s Tom Zirbel rose to the occasion, taking the win. Tom’s time of 8:25 was 7 seconds faster than his winning time on the same course here in 2008. It will be a tight fight, though, with BMC’s Brent Bookwalter only 1 second back and 3rd place, Karl Menzies (OUCH) coming in with a time of 8:29. Four of BISSELL’s dominating time trial specialists, Zirbel, Pete Latham, Ben Jacques-Maynes, and Jeremy Vennell placed in the top 10 and all are within 9 seconds of each other. Saturday’s 156k circuit race will be very aggressive with such a tight margin separating the GC. The 26 seconds of time bonuses available will undoubtedly provide huge motivation for the riders and the team’s plan is to keep close tabs on gaps and eat up the time bonuses available.
